Manhattan
Manhattan, Kansas is perhaps best know as the location of Kansas State University. This town of 40,000 is located in the floodplain of the Big Blue River. Although not terribly dramatic, the surrounding topography makes for some interesting images (all using a simple USGS topographic map overlay).

This image is a double viewshed analysis. The viewshed for an object consists of all locations from which that object is visible. For this study, the Bluemont Hill water tower and KS Hill (both indicated by orange stars) were used. A purple tint at a location indicates that both are invisible from that area; Red means only the water tower is visible; Blue indicates that only KS Hill is visible; Finally, untinted areas have unobstructed views of both features.
